I unlocked so many things in Clay that added a lot of value for my company.

And that pushed me to… get promoted like once per year.

How it works

  1. Phase I

Learn the key “mental models” for building in Clay

In this phase, Tanay gives you a “minimum effective dose” of theory on how to become an exemplary Clay builder.

You’ll learn how to clearly think, design, and explain what you build so anyone on the team can understand it. This time investment will pay dividends as you start to build.

    • How This Course Works
    • The GTM Data Mental Model
    • The 3-Entity Model
    • Plan Before You Build
  2. Phase II

Watch quick videos and do “quick win” tasks to master the fundamentals

Theory is great, but after that, we want you to start building. Watching videos without building will quickly get you lost and bored.

Here you’ll watch quick videos, and build 30–60 minute assignments that will teach you the fundamentals of the platform.

    • Enrichment and Waterfalls
    • Credit Economics
    • Table Craft
    • The Claygent Prompting Framework
  3. Phase III

Build 1–3 “capstone projects” you can show off and inspire your team

Ultimately, the power of Clay lies in building useful things.

Choose 1–3 out of 4 capstone projects (“Treasure Hunts”) that will get you exercising your critical thinking skills while also tying everything you’ve learned together, in projects that are close to real-world projects.

These projects are designed to challenge you, inspire you, and inspire your team.

By the end of this, you should be prepared to take your first steps to building real projects in your company, in Clay!

    • A demo-request queue, every inbound request in one of four tiers with a one-line reason you’d defend out loud
    • A CRM nobody had touched in eighteen months, re-verified and fixed, with a log of every change and why
    • A signal desk: funding events kept as their own signals, matched to the account list, routed to the right person
    • An enrichment layer rebuilt from row-by-row into two functions and two master tables
  4. After the course

Build real things for your team with 1-1 support

Once busy professionals finish the above program, they want to continue learning as quickly as possible with 1‑1 feedback and coaching on real builds inside their company.

This is something you can get as part of the full Bootprint program.

Tanay Mishra

Tanay Mishra

Head of AI Training

Created and ran the first four versions of Bootprint’s Claude Code cohort, and has taught the Clay team itself how to use Claude Code. Then rebuilt the Clay course around the thing that makes Clay hard to learn from recordings: the interface changes faster than any walkthrough can. So the lessons teach the thinking underneath, and you keep building even when the screen changes.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know Clay before I start?
No. The course assumes you understand the B2B lifecycle (a lead, a company, a contact, a deal) and that you’ll follow Clay University’s walkthroughs for the buttons alongside the lessons. It doesn’t assume you’ve built a table before.
Is this live, or on my own schedule?
Both. The lessons are short videos and 30–60 minute assignments you work through on your own schedule, with async feedback on what you build. Alongside them, you meet a coach 1-1 twice a week: 8 sessions over the 4 weeks, scheduled around your availability.
Do I need my own Clay license, and who pays for the credits?
No. Every student gets 3 months on Clay’s Growth plan, provided by Clay, so you build in a real workspace from day one. The course teaches you to spend its credits like they’re your company’s money, because soon they will be.
Will this still hold up when Clay changes its interface, or when the AI models change?
That’s what it’s built for. Model names go stale every few weeks; the framework for choosing one (is this extraction, judgment, research, or something agentic?) doesn’t. The lesson on Clay’s AI columns says it outright: you learn a framework precisely because the names underneath it don’t survive a year.
I’m not sure Clay is where I’ll end up. Does any of this transfer?
Yes. Learning Clay this way teaches you to think in structured systems and to know the enrichment providers and what each one is for, and both pay off in Claude Code and Codex. The three-entity model, waterfalls, planning before you build, spending someone else’s budget carefully: Clay is where you practice them, and they come with you.
What happens after the course?
You should be ready to take your first steps building real projects in your company. Most busy professionals want to keep learning as quickly as possible from there, with 1-1 feedback and coaching on real builds inside their company. That support sits outside this course: it’s part of the full Bootprint program.
